Comments Policy

A few words are in order about comments on this site’s blog. If you are new to the site, please take a moment to read what follows.

Comments on our blog posts are welcome – provided that they add something meaningful, relevant, or constructive to the topic at hand.

If you do not run a website and do not leave a URL when commenting, you need not read beyond this paragraph. Thanks for visiting, and feel free to add your thoughts to the blog. So long as you’re not abusive or obnoxious, your comment will probably stand.

However, if your sole purpose in commenting is to gain “link juice” as a part of an SEO strategy for a website – whether yours or someone else’s – your comment is not likely to be approved.

Whenever a URL is left, the following procedure is followed:

  1. Any comment that is not made under an actual name will be deleted immediately. Keyword-based anchor text will not be tolerated. Please don’t be that obvious.
  2. If your comment is generic and could easily have appeared on any number of other blogs, it will probably be deleted as spam. At best, the link to your URL will be removed, leaving just a comment. So if you want to say that the blog looks great, feel free; just don’t expect to get a link out of it.
  3. If you use html to add active links to the body of your comment, that link will be deactivated unless it points to content that really adds value to the discussion as opposed to being blatant self-promotion or an exercise in link-building.
  4. If you survive the foregoing tests – and almost no-one does – then your contribution of intelligent content will earn you a backlink.

Thanks to all for respecting these rules.
